Our environment

Barton undertake all work by minimising our impact on the environment. This means minimising the removal of materials and reusing them on site where possible and when removal is required this is removed as efficiently as possible. As part of a Group of companies we operate our own landfill and recycling centres and where possible use recycled inbound materials in preference of virgin materials.

All plant and machinery are purchased and monitored with fuel efficiency and environmental impact in mind. Our operatives are trained to identify environmental risks and carry all the required equipment, such as spill kits, to deal with  emergency situations. Barton have an excellent working relationship with the Environment Agency and where necessary are competent at obtaining and complying with permits.

Barton aim to assist customers to achieve their own BREEAM targets. Clients looking to improve their BREEAM assessment results can do this by using materials produced to the WRAP Protocol available from Barton recycling centres and elsewhere .

Where possible Barton along with our parent Company The Bennie Group use renewable energy ranging from photovoltaic array at its offices and workshops to reclaiming spent oils for heating. This is in addition to the usual practices of recycling of office, plant, machinery and vehicle consumables and the general avoidance of wasteful activities as much as possible.

In every project that we undertake we aim to satisfy the needs of the community, our customers and the environment whilst working alongside key stakeholders such as:

  • The Environment Agency
  • English Nature
  • RSPB
  • Wildlife Trusts
  • Local Planning Authorities
