Ground breaking ceremony at A602

Date: Category: Barton News

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Friday 14th August to kick-start the final phase of infrastructure improvements to the A602 between Watton-at-Stone and Tonwell. Planned works are expected to take around 18 months to complete.

Barton were onsite to help host a number of representatives, alongside project partners Hertfordshire County Council and Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), with main contractor Interserve Construction Limited.

The A602 improvements form part of a wider project to improve the route between Stevenage and Ware, increasing resistance to growing traffic through reduced delays and improving journey times via the strategic east-west link.

The final phase of development will include the enlarging of the A119 Hertford Road to A601 Ware Road roundabout, including the realignment of the A602 Ware Road from Heath Mount School to Stoney Hills junction.

The A602 improvements are funded by a £20m Local Growth Fund investment from Hertsordshire LEP and funding from Hertfordshire County Council.

Wayne Howell, Divisional Director, Interserve Construction, commented: The team at Interserve Construction are delighted to begin work on the A602 in Hertfordshire following our recent success in securing highway infrastructure projects in Suffolk and Thurrock.

The contract with Hertfordshire County Council is a testament to our capabilities and track record in delivering road infrastructure projects for local authorities and Highways England around the UK and our work on the A602 will bring real economic benefits and make driving in Hertfordshire safer and improve journey times.”

Barton are thrilled to be working alongside Interserve on this next phase of A602 improvements. Keep a look out for our new PRIDE wrapped Cat D6 dozer onsite over the coming weeks and months.
